Welcome
to the Asian American Outdoors Philadelphia!
The
original AO was founded in New York in 1987. Their tremendous success
has prompted some of the New England-based members to spawn a sister
chapter locally in the greater Boston area shortly thereafter.
And now, Philadelphia has gotten in the act. "An organization
that brings together active Asian Americans to take advantage of
and enjoy the grand diversity and abundance of natural beauty that
is characteristic of this spectacular region (New York, Boston
and Philadelphia alike). Our main purpose is to provide opportunities
for fun and fitness for those that share a common interest and
passion for the outdoors. Asian Outdoors is a great place for Asian
Americans who are active, or want to be more active, to participate
in organized group events and have a load of fun learning, trying
and doing their favorite and new activities together." These
are words from founders in the Boston chapter.
"All
outings are cooperative adventures. Their success solely depends
on our membership's enthusiasm and participation. All outing organizers
are volunteers, and anyone with the interest and desire could be
one! AOB is very informal and very loosely structured to accommodate
all interests, experiences and capabilities." Again, some
of the sentiments from Boston and New York chapters shared by everyone
here at Philadelphia.
